Sugar Stacks

It’s no secret that I have one heck of a big sweet tooth.

I Love Cupcakes!

Though I love the sweetness of sugary foods, I do not like how they can leave me feeling lethargic, tired and even sick to my stomach if I indulge too much.

Over the weekend I saw a really neat post on FitSugar.com that directed readers to a website called SugarStacks.com, that visually shows viewers just how many lil’ sugar cubes are in various food items.

Visually seeing just how much sugar is in some of your favorite foods can really make you think twice before reaching for a second cookie.

Would you actually sit down and eat 4.5 sugar cubes? No! But when the sugar is hidden in a cookie, it’s easily to put that thought out of your mind.

Lunch

When I made my lunch for today, I kept the sugar content low and natural and derived my sweetness from fresh strawberries.

Fresh Strawberries

I made myself a peanut butter and strawberry sandwich on a whole wheat sandwich thin.

Creamy PB

PB & S Sandwich

On the side I enjoyed several sliced strawberries and a cup of Chobani plain Greek yogurt, sweetened with a couple drops of honey.

Cuisinart Sale

As some of you may know, I love the website Rue La La and use it often to get great deals on designer clothes (Especially jeans – I love William Rast and Ernest Sewn).

The site features daily sales that begin at 11 a.m. and today’s sale seemed blog-appropriate since it featured lots of kitchenware from Cuisinart. It’s an “invite only” web site, but you may click here to enter the boutique and shop around. (Warning: You may become addicted.)

  6. i saw a thing like that on sugar in high school nutrition class! it was crazy.. it showed the sugar in gum, soda, cookies, cakes, and even some breads/bagels! it can really sneak up on ya.

  7. Is it awful that I WOULD eat all those sugar cubes…and the cookie too? LOL?!!!

  8. Ahhh, I’ve seen those pictures with the sugar cubes before…yikes! I like to try to avoid that visual πŸ˜‰ It is scary to see how much sugar is in one cookie like that…but that’s why it’s all about moderation!

  10. I have never heard of putting PB and berries together, but why not?

I want to check out that site and work on limiting my ‘added sugars’.

  11. Peanut butter and strawberries sounds like it could be a yummy combo! I love the FitSugar website as well. I’m actually devouring a bowl of strawberries as I type this! πŸ™‚

  13. That is eye-opening– I would be scared to see some of the sweets I indulge in in terms of sugar cubes…eek! πŸ™‚

  14. Whoa, I am most shocked by the picture of the sweetened condensed milk on that site! Cah-razy! I have a mean sweet tooth too, and wouldn’t put it past myself to eat an actual sugar cube πŸ˜‰

  15. Ironically, my human garbage disposal of a boyfriend first made me aware of how much sugar I was eating! I’ve always been a pretty healthy eater, but if I indulge, it’s always in sweets. Lately I’ve been trying to eat sugary foods only when it’s truly worth it- a delicious bakery cupcake is way better than a prepackaged candy bar!

  16. Thanks for the website tip! Very excited!

  21. Love the idea of strawberries on your sandwich – thats brilliant. Rue La La makes me sad because they don’t ship to Canada, but they do have amazing deals.

  22. I feel like the biggest gaps in my healthy eating are with sugar and salt/sodium. I try so hard to not eat processed foods, lots of junk and empty calories, soda, fried stuff, etc. most of the time… yet I donΒ΄t think much of eating foods with a ton of HIDDEN sugar or sodium, or dumping half the salt shaker on my bowl of popcorn. I really need to pay more attention to that.

  23. I used to look at the RueLaLa website all the time, but have never purchased anything. It’s funny because I was just writing on my blog yesterday about how I was certain products (cuisinart griddle and food processor).. but the deal isn’t quite good enough for me. I’m going to wait it out and see if I can get it on some type of super sale! haha!

  24. […] contemplating sugar a bit more, I stumbled over Sugarstacks.com through Julie’s post. I mean, being careful about what to put in my body I knew the vending machine was pretty much off […]
