Georgia Glazed Pecans

My fiancè knows me so well.

He brought be back a lil’ present from his hiking trip and of course it was food-related.

When he was driving through Georgia, he picked up a pack of Georgia glazed pecans. Pecans are my favorite nut and when they’re coated in sugar or cinnamon or anything sweet, they’re all the more delicious.

Naturally I incorporated my present into my morning breakfast.

Pecans + Waffle

I surrounded a toasted Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain whole wheat waffle with the glazed pecans and topped it with a mixture of ricotta cheese, honey and cinnamon before dusting the plate with nutmeg.

Monday Morning Breakfast

On the side I nibbled on a small handful of Planters nuts, seeds and raisins trail mix that was leftover from Ryan’s hiking trip this weekend.

Trail Mix

I forgot how yummy sunflower seeds are. When I was younger, I used to love sucking on the salty shells of sunflower seeds before breaking them open.

Workout

Today’s workout felt awesome.

It’s weird how two days off from the gym can rejuvenate me significantly more than a single day off sometimes. Other times two days off can put me into lazy-girl mode and make my workout totally drag when I get back in the gym.

Fortunately today the two days off left me feeling well rested and ready for a good workout.

I started my workout with a BodyPump class and finished it up with 25 minutes of light cardio on the elliptical with two issues of OK! magazine.

I never struggle to read a magazine while using the elliptical but I cannot read anything when I’m on the treadmill… even if I am walking!

Do you read magazines or books while working out?

I read if I am doing a cardio machine like the elliptical or arc trainer since I am more stable and not bouncing around like I do on the treadmill. I usually save magazines for easier cardio sessions, like those I do after weights. If I’m setting out to get an awesome workout, I leave the magazines at home.

  1. Mmmm…I love sugar-glazed nuts! I don’t read…it distracts me! I just listen to music instead πŸ™‚

  2. I can’t EVER read while working out. I usually an going at an intensity that makes it impossible to read. I prefer music. πŸ™‚

  3. My gym has a TV attached to every cardio machine, so I usually watch TV. But if there is nothing on, I will read. My membership is up at the end of the month because I started running, and obv just listening to music… Although, if I could ever get US Magazine or Cosmo on tape, I would totally listen to that πŸ™‚

  4. I watch tv when i do cardio. the only machine that doesnt have a tv is the stairmaster so i do read when i’m on that. plus its more stable so that works out.

my gym at home doesnt have tvs though. i’m going to have to learn to be one of those ipod listening runners or something.

i love glazed nuts. the sugar coated pecans are the death of me. 6 is like 190 calories. i eat like 20 at a time. ahhh..haha.

    • no kidding! not exactly a low-calorie food – but they’re so darn delicious!

  5. Ive never been a big pecan fan–ill leave them all to you :).

I can walk on the treadmill and read magazines…sometimes its nice to just get on there and walk until you are done with the mag.

  6. Hey girl! What a great looking bfast! Love coated pecans. They well some of the best pecans at the Charleston’s farmers market! We had very similar workouts this AM! I taught Pump and ran beforehand πŸ™‚

  7. Candied pecans are a big Christmas thing in my family… so good!

And I only read when on the elliptical or stairmill. I like to focus when I’m on the treadmill doing my running… plus I’m bouncing around so much, I probably couldn’t do it if I tried!

  8. LOVE the idea of mixing ricotta cheese w/ honey & cinnamon as a sweet topper for waffles. Thanks for that!
Oh and I am with you…no magazines on the treadmill but teh elliptical..no problemo! gotta keep up with the gossip πŸ™‚

  9. I’m just like you – if I’m doing an easy cardio workout, I’ll flip through a magazine to help pass the time. But if I’m doing any kind of intense workout, especially on the treadmill, I couldn’t read a magazine even if I tried!

  10. I like to read on the elliptical, and stair stepper as well. Sometimes, depending if I am walking on incline or not, I can read on the treadmill..but typically not. Just too much movement πŸ™‚
Your breakfast looks like it is from a restaurant- so perfectly placed & put together πŸ™‚

  11. Yay for sugar and nuts together. Such a winning combination. Although not quite as great as peanut butter + fingers. πŸ™‚ I do the magazine thing on the elliptical but nothing else… if I was walking on the treadmill, sure, but running?? I have no idea how poeple do that.

  12. I like to page through a magazine if I am on the elliptical or bike, any other cardio and it makes me feel motion sickness.

  13. I can read if I’m on the stationary bike, but that’s about it. I haven’t even mastered the elliptical yet for some reason and don’t even try on the treadmill. I’d go flying off the back!

  14. holy yum to those pecans! i don’t know if i’d be able to control myself around them πŸ™‚ i used to read magazines and study for my tests on the stairclimber, but everything else it was too hard to focus on them!

  15. Oh my gosh, glazed pecans are one of my favorites! I just tell myself that they’re calorie free πŸ˜‰
And thanks for the extra idea for my neverending supply of ricotta! Hopefully I can incorporate that before the rest of it goes bad πŸ™‚
When it comes to magazines + working out, I’m the same as you…love ’em on the elliptical, can’t do much with ’em on the treadmill (unless it’s an easy walk)

  16. i can’t read while i’m on the treadmill – i’m way too a.d.d and busy staring at the gym hotties.

  17. nothing beats sugar coated nuts… for real

  18. Have you ever had the candy coated pecans at whole foods Julie? To die for!

  19. Glazed pecans sound delicious! If I’m on the treadmill or ellipitcal, I’ll flip through a magazine just to look at the pictures, but it’s too hard for me to focus on the words.

  20. I like to read on the treadmill, elliptical, and stepmill. I have been bringing my book along the past couple of workouts and it makes the time fly. Plus, I don’t get enough time to read and this is the perfect way to fit it in.

  21. Both! I subscribe to every health and fitness magazine under the sun! But lateky I’ve been reading books (which completely amazes me, since I’ve never been a reader). I just finished “Such a Pretty Fat, and WHy Pie Is Not the Answer” by Jen Lancaster. FUNNY. I’m reading her other book now, “Bitter is the New Black”.

  22. I’m like you, if it’s a more leisurely pace, I can read a magazine or at least browse through the pictures…if it’s a tough cardio session, no way!

  23. I usually can’t read when working on the treadmill but I can on other machines. If I do the stairmaster I HAVE to have some form of entertainment to make the pain not so bad! haha!

  24. I can’t even read a magazine on the stationery bike! lol, I guess i need to be completely focused. I also tend to slack off in intensity when I read during workouts so I try not to.

  25. I am SO GLAD you introduced me to BODYPUMP! I’m completely obsessed! I’m on week 2 and I swear I’m already getting stronger πŸ™‚

I can’t read on machines I get dizzzzy!

  26. i always have to have a magazine! especially since my ipod broke and the tvs at the gym are usually on things i don’t want to watch….i would die without something to read/look at.

  27. Mmm… those pecans look delish! Also, I’m totally like you – can’t read magazines on the treadmill but love reading books/mags on the elliptical/bike.
