Sleeping Through Surprises

Tonight was supposed to be my surprise birthday dinner with Ryan. I knew we had dinner reservations somewhere,  but Ryan wasn’t telling me where until tonight.

After our drive back to Orlando, I was pooped. I think my lack of sleep from last night really caught up to me because while Ryan was watching the Bulls game, I fell asleep on the couch.

About 20 minutes before we were supposed to head out the door, Ryan woke me up and asked if I wanted to go out to dinner still to celebrate. I felt exhausted and we both decided that a night in would suit us better.

I went back to sleep for a bit and when I woke up Ryan said, “Dinner is baking.”

He then turned his lap top toward me to show me the Domino’s Pizza Tracker which offers a play-by-play of your pizza order. Ryan ordered us two pizzas, which sounded 100 percent perfect to me.

Pizza Time!

When they arrived we dug in! Between the two of us, we polished off a small and a medium pizza. I definitely held my own!

Cheesy

Dessert

For dessert, I baked up a batch of funfetti cake mix cookies.

Funfetti Cake Mix

Though the cookies are sugary and delicious, the batter is the best part!

Funfetti Cookie Dough

I ate one too many spoonfuls of cookie dough though and am feeling a little ill at the moment. Eek!

Despite eating lots o’ dough, I still had room for two smallish freshly baked cookies.

Funfetti Cake Mix Cookies

Cookie Monster

Now that I have a full belly, I’m hoping to hop into bed early tonight because I am still a little sleepy.

Goodnight! 😀

  1. Happy birthday…and that pizza and cupcakes look great. Eat up!

  2. Yum…when I was in junior high I would use that same recipe only spread it in a cake pan to make cookie bars for all the sleep-over parties with my best friends 🙂

  3. How the fuck do you eat so much and stay so scrawny?!!!! You have to be bulimic, there is just no other explanation. You shouldn’t advocate a healthy lifestyle honey when you clearly have an obvious eating disorder. This sickens me.

    Get some help please.
And enough with the goddamn bikini pics! We know you are cute and skinny, no need to shove it in everyones face with every damn post.

    • Jayden, get a LIFE! She is awesome!!!! Healthy, fit, and HAPPY! Clearly, to post something like this YOU HAVE THE SELF ESTEEM ISSUES….SO YOU SHOULD GET HELP!

Julie is awesome! Beautiful inside and out! And Julie, keep the bikini pics coming! You are hawwwt 🙂

      xoxoxox

      • WOW! I agree, sounds like Jayden is the one that needs help.

Keep posting the cute pictures, they inspire me.

        • Jayden…no one is forcing you to read Julie’s blog. If you don’t like then move on and don’t read it. She doesn’t need negative comments like that from anyone. It is tacky and immature. Please don’t attack people who have done nothing to you.

    • Jealously is a sick, sick disease. Julie I hope you are able to laugh this off and just know that SO many people look up to you, you’re beautiful inside and out 🙂

I love funfetti!!! I’ve never seen the cookie kind, just cake 😛 Happy Birthday!!!

    • Jayden,

I would say thank you for your concern, but I don’t feel like you are genuinely concerned about me or my eating habits. There are ways to comment with criticism or concern in an appropriate and classy way, and unfortunately I think you went about this comment in a very attacking manor.

I would normally just ignore it and move on, but your accusation that I am bulimic needs to be addressed.

I am not bulimic, nor have I ever had an eating disorder. That being said, the lifestyle I am advocating on this blog is one fueled by mostly healthy foods, but also treats, because I cannot (and do not want to) deprive myself of indulgent foods.

Though you are entitled to your own opinion about my eating and my lifestyle, I can 100 percent assure you I EAT and do not have an eating disorder. I think it is possible to indulge in treats every now and then and keep a healthy body weight when most of the food you eat is nutritious and you also exercise regularly.

Also, since this is the first comment I’ve received with a curse word in it, I will leave it up because I wanted to address it, but I do want to say that I think it was extremely inappropriate and very rude. I am open to all different thoughts and even criticisms, but do not feel like writing a comment like that is appropriate. I mean, would you talk to your mother that way!? 🙂

    • Jayden, You are a wack job dont read the blog if you dont like it Julie is gorgeous, sounds like some one is jealous

      • WOW! I would love to meet the person who shoves Jayden’s face to the computer each day and forces her to read this blog. Or maybe it is part of Jayden’s parole to read blogs about those with interesting healthy and fun lives.

  4. Those cookies sound so fun! Ryan sounds so sweet, pizza and cookies is the perfect night in 🙂

And please don’t let the comment above mine get you down. I hate the mentality that you can’t eat a lot and still be thin…you clearly have some great genes, but you also stay active and live a life of moderation between healthy foods and treats!!

  5. Just getting caught up on your FUN weekend! What a great family you have! Looks like you all always have an absolute blast!!

  6. Whoa, just saw that above post. Sorry someone is down and out on their own life to be so mean to you for no reason 😦 I think you are great and I love your blog AND your pictures

  7. I love your blog and read it everday. You are beautiful, have a great personality and a awesome physique. You have a great family. Julie keep the pictures coming including bikini. I adore Sadie. Ignore that comment above, Jayden is just a miserable and jealous person.

  8. Julie, props to you on tackling those pizzas! Contrary to other comments above, I think it’s great to see healthy, fit girls occasionally enjoy some fun, “not-so-healthy” indulgences! And funfetti cupcake cookies are one of my FAVORITES!! I have a feeling if the two of us were put together, we’d be able to dominate ANY dessert! 😉

  9. Hi Julie! Don’t listen to a word of what Jayden said! Like you, I like to stay fit and eat healthfully, but I also just polished off a big bowl of pasta and dessert 🙂 It’s all about balance, and you do a great job of it! Life without pizza and funfetti cookies is just not worth living, right?

  10. happy birthday! i know what it feels like to just want to sleep through stuff…but what a sweetie is your fiance to still serve you dinner 🙂 sounds like a fun night!

  11. Sounds like the perfect night! My hubby and I have opted to stay in and celebrate many times…sometimes it’s just more fun! Happy Birthday.

  12. Ugh some people are lame 🙂 Anyways, I love how you Dominos even tells you the name of your delivery person! Technology is awesome!

  13. Hi Julie! I started reading your blog through carrots n cake and I love it! It is definitely on my list of blogs I check once a day (at least!)
I agree with what everyone else has said too- you are gorgeous and work hard for that body-you totally deserve to splurge! There are always going to be jealous people, don’t think
    twice about it!

  14. Happy Birthday Julie! Casual meals like this are sometimes so much nicer than going out!

As to the cruel commenter- there are internet trolls out there who like to comment on blogs, I have dealt with it myself. This person obviously envies you and has their own self-esteem issues. Keep up the great posts.

  15. Sounds like such such a perfect night! Love that he was so thoughtful to order pizza for when you were ready to wake up!

Cake mix cookies are my absolute favorite. I use to always make those in highschool!!

  16. Those cookies are the best. I live abroad and my birthday is coming up in about a month, and I asked my parents to send me a box of the cake mix so I could make those for my birthday… fingers crossed that they arrive on time 🙂

  17. Don’t worry about that comment…ugh. You are super cute and obviously VERY healthy! 🙂

Ummmm, I want those cookies. NOW. 🙂

  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! It looks like you had a great birthday weekend 🙂

Funfetti = best. cake. mix. ever. I’m going to have to try that recipe!

  19. Happ Birthday honey! We love you!

  20. Happy Birthday!

  21. I love Funfetti cookies, they are even more delicious topped with some cream cheese frosting…Mmm!

Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a great, fun-filled day!

  22. I LOOOOOVE YOU!! That comment was completely ridiculous. I know you always see the positives in everything, and I think that was very big of you to address that person’s “concern.” We all know you can eat 😉 haha and your healthy lifestyle inspires me everyday! Love you Juju, and Happy almost Birthday!!
    xoxo,
    Lil Les

    • thanks les. i love you, too! i’m sorry you had to see that comment. 😦 can’t wait to see you soon!!!

  23. Funfetti cookies are the best!

  24. Ooh comment drama, there are lots of people out there who have nothing better to do but be internet trolls. Ignore them!

  25. As someone who has been bulimic, I am insulted by that comment. Bulimia is a real disorder–one that people hide behind. I would never publicize my eating & certainly wouldn’t show off my body when I was actively purging. Obviously, Jayden doesn’t know anything about it because bulimics feel intense shame about themselves, not confidence. Thank you, Julie, for being an advocate of healthy balance. That’s why I keep reading–I need the positive reminder daily. You are an inspiration!

    • Thank you for this comment. Honestly, when I first read Jayden’s comment, my thoughts went out to those who may be struggling with bulimia. Congratulations to you for overcoming the disorder and thank you for sharing this. It means a lot. 🙂

  26. Happy Birthday!

Your confidence, health, and happiness are what attracts me to your blog. You just illustrate how moderation is the key.

  27. Wow that is ridiculous that someone would post something like that, but especially to post it to someone who is SO nice, beautiful & friendly- I am in SHOCK!!! Julie- you look GREAT!!! (& your abs- OMG- I’m jealous!! 🙂 – in a GOOD way of course though:))

  28. Just saw this post and comment now, and want to add my two cents. I struggled with bulimia for two years and it is a horrible disorder that is secretive and shameful. I love reading blogs like yours, Julie, because they show that being healthy does not have to be black and white. You can work out most days, eat healthy 80% of the time and allow indulgences without guilt. Seeing this has helped me immensely and has allowed me to enjoy treats and desserts without beating myself up. I really hope you didn’t take this comment to heart, because you seem like a great person. You are also gorgeous, and your bathing suit pics don’t bother most of us!! Have a great day 🙂

    • Thank you so much for sharing this with me, Amanda. I truly I do not think eating has to be so rigid to be considered healthy and balanced and I’m so, so happy to hear that you’ve overcome bulimia and recognize that living a healthy life includes all different kinds of foods. That is something to be proud of and so is having the bravery to make this comment and share something so personal. Thank you!

  29. Happy ALMOST Birthday Love,

Looks like you had an AHmazing weekend!! Obviously, I HAVE to say something about that comment. It’s unfortunate that their are people so unhappy with their own lives that they feel the need to make rude comments like that. It’s SO unclassy. I’m so glad you addressed it instead of deleting it (even though it’s so tempting).

That person is NOT one of you readers, but just an unhappy person who stumbled upon your b log. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we want to keep seeing the bikini pics. They’re inspiring and cute!! Your blog rocks and you better not change a thing!! What your doing is one of the most healthy approaches to food/fitness. You’re pretty much the perfect example of moderation!

Hope you’re having a fabulous day lovely lady!!

  30. I’m a little late in the game on this one but I also just wanted to let you know that I support you Julie and I think you are an AWESOME role model! You are absolutely gorgeous, both inside and out. You live a healthy lifestyle and don’t deny yourself when you really want something, which is what health is all about. You’re awesome!

  31. Wow, wow, wow. I’m just catching up after the weekend and I must say a few things.
    1) How sweet of Ryan for rearranging your dinner plans!
    2) I’m going to have to try funfetti cookies soon! I’m intrigued!
    3) WTFFFFFFF is up with that commenter? I think you have a great attitude about food and the fact that people jump to conclusions like that to justify their insecurities is just BANANAS!

Keep doing what you’re doing girl!:D

  32. I am just getting caught up on blogs and cannot believe the comment you received. I know that you eat and I have seen you grow so much over the past year or so with your approach to food becoming healthier and healthier. I have no doubt you maintain your weight and your awesome bikini body in a balanced manner. And I know I could put down some pizza and cookies too with no problem and did so even at my leanest….so I know its possible and just part of enjoying life. 🙂

PS – After my blogger meetup with Em this weekend I was thinking of all the other people I would love to meet and could possibly get to and you came to mind automatically. I will be in Daytona this June and would not mind coming to Orlando at all to meet up with you for lunch or something. 🙂

  33. HAHAHAHAHA ohhhh Jayden, you silly little person. I’ve known Julie since we were 18 and believe me she does NOT have an eating disorder. She does however have the biggest heart and sweetest personality in the world. So, stop sippin’ on your haterade and move on. Jealousy isn’t a pretty color on anyone. Love you Jul!

  35. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the mean comments, just is so wrong that people have to deal with that, Im sorry you got a mean comment like that, but at least your a strong and beautiful girl that doesn’t let people like that affect you!! People like that are not worth a minute of your time, it’s sad that people go out of their way to be mean, makes me sick actually, love ya girl, and its all about moderation, I indulge too, but not everyday, and I workout on a regular basis as well!

Live your life to the fullest love !! You rock! Nobody can take that away from you!!!

  36. Wow- just saw these comments! Julie that is the biggest nonsense I have ever heard! You do not eat ‘ a lot’- you eat what you want in small portions! You are healthy, hit and HAPPY- a true inspiration to enjoying what life has to offer! This lame and pathetic person is obviously jealous and dealing with their own issue to jump to a ludicrous comment as that! Very insecure and obviously lacks intelligence, otherwise they wouldn’t feel the need to post such vitriol in order to make themselves feel better! IGNORE THEM! I think of you as a friend- even though we don’t really know each other! You are wonderful!
    XOXO
    Barbara

  37. Good job on the pizzas. You and Ryan are the cutest!

And as everyone says, I agree. You are beautiful, healthy and fit so sure you can indulge in little treats here and there and not have it havoc on your body. That “person” needs to get over it and stop hating on your hotness girl!

  38. girl – don’t ever let someone’s ignorant comments get you down.
it’s funny because a lot of the things that person said passed through my head too, but opposite reaction.

example: damn, her pictures are such a good example of why it’s rewarding to eat a balanced diet. um…. maybe nutrition actually WORKS?
example: when you eat real foods, you don’t have to FREAKING STARVE YOURSELF?

keep it up and all of us will keep reading and supporting you.
