8 Worst Snacks

After work yesterday I ran to the grocery store to pick up some Viactiv calcium chews since I was all out (I take one of these every morning).

While I was there, I nabbed a small spaghetti squash… Kinda like a personal pan pizza, but a personal puny spaghetti squash. 😉

I cooked it up last night to enjoy for lunch today.

Friday's Lunch

I topped the spaghetti squash with marinara meat sauce, Parmesan and ricotta cheese and stirred it up until the sauce coated every last strand of squash.

Friday's Lunch

Though there’s a lot of volume in this lunch, I knew I would probably feel hungry in no time without some additional protein.

For dessert, I had overnight oats prepared with old fashioned oats, Greek yogurt, strawberries and instant chocolate pudding mix.

This concoction was suuuuper tasty!

8 Worst Snacks

Today WebMD compiled a list of the 8 worst snacks. Check ’em out and see if anything you eat made the list!

8 Worst Snacks:

  1. Chocolate-coated doughnuts and mini doughnuts (Entenmann’s Pop’ems)
  2. Snack pies (Hostess fruit pies)
  3. Movie-theater butter microwavable popcorn (Pop-Secret Extra Butter)
  4. Lunchables by Oscar Mayer
  5. Regular chips and Cheetos
  6. Packaged frozen snacks (Jimmy Dean biscuits, Hot Pockets)
  7. Tyson Fun Nuggets
  8. Cheese crackers (Ritz Bits, Cheez-Its)

Though I wasn’t shocked, I was sad to see Cheez-Its on the list.

They’re just so darn delicious!

Eating a Green Monster

Why-oh-why did I wait so long to try a Green Monster?

I think I was put off by the green color and the fact that drinking a Green Monster meant sipping down calories, and I generally prefer to eat my calories.

Since I thoroughly enjoyed my first Green Monster experience, I decided to recreate it today. This time I ate my Green Monster with a spoon to satisfy my need to eat something rather than drink something first thing in the morning.

Breakfast

My Green Monster included:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • Almond Breeze almond milk
  • 3 large handfuls of spinach

Friends & Family Influence Drinking

Yesterday I read an interesting article about the influence of a person’s social network and family on their personal drinking habits.

The study found that heavy drinkers, moderate drinkers and light drinkers tend to flock together. Apparently people were 50% more likely to be heavy drinkers if one of their friends or relatives drank heavily.

Do your friends or family influence your drinking habits?

Jumping on the Bandwagon

“Hummus, hummus, I got the hummus!”

(Anyone else remember that episode of Friends where Phoebe wears a big Christmas bow to cover her hummus stain? Hysterical!)

I got the hummus in my lunch today. 🙂

I copied my sandwich from Tuesday’s lunch and made another roasted red pepper hummus sandwich with portobello mushrooms.

Hummus + Mushroom Sandwich

This sandwhich was awesome. You’d think Ryan and I just discovered hummus or something this past week. He’s had it on his turkey sandwich every day since Sunday!

On the side I snacked on fresh green and red peppers dipped in Laughing Cow light Swiss cheese and enjoyed sugar-free strawberry Jello for dessert.

Snack Time

Today’s morning snack was oh-so-good!

I made a double chocolate and peanut butter protein cake (courtesy of Miss April‘s recipe) with All the Whey chocolate peanut butter cup protein powder (which I buy here on NutraPlanet.com) and cocoa powder.

I spread a semi-thawed frozen banana on the divided cake and smooshed the two slices back together for a chocolate peanut butter and banana delight! April, I love you for this recipe.

I also enjoyed some salty peanuts.

Jumping on the Bandwagon: Ask Me Anything

Now that it seems like the Ask Me Anything phenomenon all over blog world is dying down, I figured I’d suck it up and participate. Better late than never!

I’m not anticipating a lot of questions since I’m not the most interesting person in the world, and I’m a little nervous about what kind of questions I might get! Buuut, I know I really enjoyed reading other question and answer sessions. It’s fun to learn something new! So, without further ado, click here to ask me anything!

Remember, it’s completely anonymous and I cannot see who submits questions… It’s cool for you, but I know it’ll drive me crazy since I’m the most curious person in the world. 😀 Just ask my mom, who still has to hide my Christmas presents from me.
