Square Pizza Slices

After work yesterday Ryan and I went to see two different small houses that are were in the running for us to rent when we move out at the end of March.

First, I enjoyed a quick afternoon snack of a piece of EarthGrains wheat berry with honey bread, toasted and lightly buttered. I was excited to receive a package from EarthGrains when I arrived home with this bread and a nifty EarthGrains green bag. Thank you EarthGrains!

Woohoo!!!

Lovin' Bread and the Green Bag

After a quick snack, we left to check out the houses.

Unfortunately both places are no longer in the running. One didn’t have a washer or dryer (deal breaker for us). I loved the other one, Ryan didn’t like the fact that someone would live in a garage apartment behind us. Plus, we’d really like a place to have a fenced-in yard for Sadie which neither of these homes did.

Back to the drawing board!

Dinner

Last night the weather was cold and rainy. As a mini-surprise for Ryan I placed an order for a pizza for us to pick up after seeing the second house. (It’s the little things, right!? 😉 ) I honestly can’t remember the last time I ordered a pizza from a big-name pizza place! Clearly, it was time.

Pizza Hut has a promotion where you can order any pizza with any toppings for $10. I ordered the pizza online and selected the thin ‘n’ crispy pizza with all the veggies (except jalapeños) and light cheese. Then, to my wonderful surprise, under the box where you can type in “special instructions” the example provided was “cut into squares.”

I looooove pizza sliced into squares. I always associate square sliced pizza with living in Palatine, Illinois. Before we moved to Florida, my family would order square sliced pizza from a yummy pizza place and it always felt like such a neat treat. Who knew Pizza Hut offered this!? Not me, that’s for sure!

What’s your favorite pizza topping?

We swung by the ol’ Hut and picked up our pizza to bring back to the apartment to enjoy while watching a movie.

Smellin' Good

The pizza looked, smelled and tasted phenomenal.

Thin 'n' Crispy Pizza

Lots o' Veggies

Between me and Ryan, we managed to finish the entire medium pizza… Well, Sadie helped with a crust or two.

I’ve been in quite the pizza-loving mood lately. This is the third time I’ve had pizza this week (BBQ chicken pizza on Monday night, marinara pizza at La Luce Wednesday night and now this!).

Today

I’m off to make a yummy breakfast before Ryan and I head out to volunteer with our friend Dru from 8:30 a.m. to noon today. We’re helping out at the zoo, transferring sand from the tortoise exhibit, I think.

Afterward, I’m heading to my friend Merri’s to have a Gossip Girl marathon with her and my other friend Laurel. While I’m there, I will also be making Ryan’s homemade valentine. We’re making valentines for each other this year and I have a couple ideas for Ryan’s.

Yay for the weekend!!!

EarthGrains Giveaway & Healthified Brownie Batter

Giveaway fun in un momento, but first, breakfast!

Breakfast

I am officially addicted to my big bowl of chocolate goodness.

Cocoa Breakfast Bowl

If you love chocolate and have a sweet tooth that kicks in first thing in the morning, you should give this breakfast a try!

  • 1/4 c. dry Flax-Z-Snax chocolate cream hot cereal (I buy this at Netrition.com)
  • 1 scoop All the Whey chocolate peanut butter cup protein powder (I buy this at Nutraplanet.com)
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • Water

I mix everything together before heating the mixture in the microwave for about a minute, stirring it up and heating it again for another 20 seconds or so. It “grows” in the microwave and becomes really thick. It really does taste like “healthified” brownie batter.

Wednesday's Breakfast

Ryan tried it this weekend and gave it a thumbs up, but said it was a little too chocolatey for him first thing in the morning (Ha! Too chocolatey… What is that?). Nothing is ever too chocolatey for me… at any time of the day.

Sometimes You Just Want a Sandwich

I often prep my lunch and Ryan’s lunch for the following day while dinner is cooking at night. I kill two birds with one stone and have an activity to keep my attention so I don’t hover over the dinner pan and sneak bites every 1.5 seconds.

Yesterday I was making Ryan’s typical lunch sandwich. He always eats a chicken, turkey or ham sandwich or a salad for lunch, so his meals come together in a flash since I don’t really put too much thought into what he’d want to eat. He can eat the same food day in and day out.

I like a little more variety, but yesterday his simple chicken sandwich called to me. “Eat me, Julie!” (It really said that. Honest.)

Easy, peasy lunches are great and sandwiches are a personal fav.

Though I generally prefer subs to a plain ol’ sandwich, today this simple sandwich suited me perfectly.

Simple Chicken Sandwich

I topped an EarthGrains whole wheat “Thin Bun” with:

  • Deli-sliced rotisserie chicken
  • Plum tomato
  • Spinach
  • Spicy mustard
  • Laughing Cow light Swiss cheese

Tomato Topper

Open-Faced Sandwich

Wednesday's Lunch

The EarthGrains Thin Bun was tasty! I think I prefer Arnold sandwich thins because they’re more doughy, but I love this lil’ quote from EarthGrain’s Web site:

“Sometimes it’s not what you put in, but what you leave out.”

They’re all about all-natural products and I think the above quote says a lot. Yay for simple, tasty food!

What’s your favorite kind of sandwich?

I tend to order roast beef subs and sandwiches when I’m getting a sandwich at a restaurant or deli. I adore French dip sandwiches (I get this from my mom). If you’re a French dip-lover and are ever in Orlando, you must go to Houston’s. Their French dip sandwich is $18 and worth every penny.

Of course I also love the ol’ sand by: peanut butter and jelly.
