Flax Hot Cereal and a Family Fun Run

Today began with a family fun run! Ryan and I leashed up the pup for a 5 mile run at 5:45 this morning.

Ready to Run!

Sadie was awfully chipper and kicked our sleepy lil’ butts. I think she could have easily run double the distance. What a champ.

The run was great and I loved having Ryan along to keep me company (and make sure I was okay when I fell on my butt… stupid bumpy brick streets!). Though it was dark when we set out, the sun was up by the time we were done. I am loving the time change!

Sweaty Smiles

Running always revs up my appetite for the rest of the day, so I prepared a bowl of hot cereal. I ordered butter pecan Flax Z Snax cereal from Netrition.com and was anxious to try it!

Butter Pecan Hot Cereal

To make the cereal, I just added hot water and let it sit for approximately 2 minutes. Of course I added a scoop of peanut butter for some creaminess and a few chocolate chips for sweetness.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chips!

This was a winning combination! I expected it to taste like oatmeal but it didn’t quite have the same consistency or flavor. It was thick and creamy, but smoother than oats. Very tasty!

The Proposal

After our yummy lobster ravioli dinner last night, Ryan and I watched The Proposal. Great movie! We both really like Ryan Reynolds (Ryan has a man-crush on him & I just have a plain old crush) and think Sandra Bullock is hilarious. The movie was very funny and also very sweet. Great recommendation, Mama!

Yeehaw! Breakfast Time!

Howdy, ya’ll! My Friday is off to a festive start.

Me and My Faithful Steed

Today we’re celebrating Halloween at work so I am currently surrounded by Waldo, a sea captain, a golf player and a zombie. I threw my costume together this morning using stuff I had around the house, namely a shirt I’ve had since high school. You never know when the good ol’ Abercrombie button-up will warrant a wear.

Breakfast

Breakfast today was mmm, mmm good!

My friend Minda gave me a big ol’ box of Brothers-All-Natural fruit crisps after she bought them and wasn’t a big fan (Thanks Minnie Minn!), so I got to try a new flavor.

Strawberry Banana Crisps

I loved these! The freeze-dried banana was soooo flavorful and tasty. At only 45 calories a pack and one ingredient (freeze dried fruit!), you can’t go wrong.

I used these to beef up my Greek yogurt. I also added a bag of Kay’s Naturals honey almond protein cereal to the mix.

This cereal is SOOOOO good. It was my first time trying it and wow-zaaa. It was flavorful, light and oh-so-tasty.

Can you tell I love cramming as many extra toppings into my Greek yogurt as possible?

Thick and Crunch-ay!

I’m excited to check out some other costumes around the office today! I love Halloween!

What was your best Halloween costume?

I think my best costume was in sixth grade. I dressed up as the Energizer Bunny in a bright pink sweatsuit with bunny ears, sunglasses and a drum my mom made featuring the Energizer logo.

That night I was a trick-or-treating mad woman. I just kept going and going and going… 😉

Yes, It’s True: McDonald’s Has a Pumpkin Milkshake

Holy hullabaloo! 🙂 Apparently the pumpkin milkshake at McDonald’s is unknown to many because after posting about it several times, I have received comments ranging from “WHAT!? McDonald’s has a pumpkin milkshake???” to “I’ve gotta try that shake. I didn’t even know it existed.”

Let me assure you, my friends, that this milkshake is alive and well and currently available at McDonald’s.

Pumpkin Milkshake

Pumpkin Milkshake

After enjoying a yummy lunch with our friend (& Ryan’s cousin) Daniel yesterday, Ryan and I casually mentioned we were going to stop by McD’s for a pumpkin milkshake on our way home to which he said something along the lines of “Whoa, McDonald’s has a pumpkin milkshake?” Yes, we assured him, they do.

Today, Daniel posted this comment on my Facebook wall: “I tried the pumpkin milkshake… I wanted to eat the cup when it was finished.”

Just in case you were wondering, I am not a McDonald’s marketer, though I think they could probably use a couple since no one seems to know about this delicious delight. 😉

I checked the McDonald’s Web site and found that they have quite a few seasonal milkshakes including an egg nog shake. Why have I never heard of this one before??? I am more than familiar with the deliciously minty shamrock shake in March, but egg nog? Looks like I have a hot date with the golden arches in December.

Also, does anyone else out there remember when McDonald’s used to offer a soft-serve swirl cone in addition to the vanilla cone they currently offer? Whatever happened to the swirl? That was the best.

Question: What’s your favorite milkshake flavor?
