Library Card

Guess what I did after work today?

I got myself one of these babies:

My very own library card. 😀

As a kid and high school student, I loved going to the library. My mom is basically a library super-fan, and would take me and my sister to our local library to browse books, magazines, DVDs and CDs for hours. We loved it!

I walked to the Orlando Public Library and within five minutes of filling out a form and handing over my driver’s license, I had a library card!

I’ve put off getting a library card for so long because parking downtown to actually go to the library is a huge pain. When one of my colleagues told me that our library actually delivers books to your home for free, I was singin’ a different tune. You can select books, DVDs or CDs through the library’s catalog system and ask them to deliver them to your doorstep. How cool is that!?

Plus, I work within walking distance of the library, so I can easily return anything we check out after work or during my lunch break.

I’m also excited to check out some of the free classes offered at the library. I sure could use some extra help when it comes to website design and html code. That stuff is way over my head and as a blogger, it would be very beneficial to gain some knowledge about the “behind the scenes” stuff.

With my spiffy library card in tow, I headed home to get crackin’ on dinner.

Dinner

Ryan and I have plans to head to St. Pete this weekend for some wedding-related appointments, so we had to use up the fresh veggies we had waiting in our fridge.

I prepared a veggie plate to enjoy along with a bowl of spaghetti, which did the trick!

My veggies included roasted Brussels sprouts and parsnip fries, served with some ketchup for dippin’.

The veggies were pretty filling and coupled with a big bowl of pasta, I felt very satisfied after eatin’ this meal!

Of course Parmesan cheese made an appearance in the pasta bowl.

As Ryan and I headed into the kitchen to clean our dishes, we caught Sadie in the middle of some Brussel sprout thievery.

  1. What a healthy pup! Brussel Sprouts! 🙂

    Oh St Lucia… so jealous!

  2. I use to love to go to the library when I was little. I remember I use to get these weird puppets in a bag. I’m not really sure what the purpose of them was, but I loved them. Oh and the Ramona and Goosebump books were always my favorite!

  3. Congratulations on your new library card. I honestly LOVE the library and I’m sure you’ll be a fan again soon! Enjoy.

  4. I can’t wait to hear your review of St. Lucia! That’s where we are looking into too! But not til next year! so fun!!!!

  8. I was so excited to get my library card and check out all the Harry Potter books until I found out the children’s and young adult section is restricted to students only. Now I need to approach some high schooler for a fake ID. As in fake student ID. Sigh.

    • that’s crazy! i’m in library school and have never heard of restricted sections. maybe you could ask for a specific book…. they may just not want adults w/o children in that section because of liability…

  9. your library delivers?!?! i would definitely be using the library more if they delivered to my doorstep!

  10. Haha! Sadie is so cute! You can’t get mad at her. 😉 Yay for wedding plans coming together!

  11. I looove libraries! But I am really only capable of reading non-fiction books. 🙂

  15. i love the library! i’d better since i am in library school after all. 🙂 congrats on that card!

  16. hahaha Sadie is too darn cute!

  17. I love the library. Checking out books and movies can save you major money in the long haul and most libraries get the new stuff in quickly these days.

(Those pictures of Sadie cracked me up!)

  18. I am so bad at returning books that I have grown to dislike the library. I liked the one at college because it was huge and because I like to be surrounded by books, but checking things out still scared me!

  19. I need to try making parsnip fries! I have seem them all over the blog word, but have yet to try them. That whole meal looks delicious 🙂

  22. St. Lucia is one of my top honeymoon choices! My fiance and I are deciding between St. Lucia and Antigua. They’re both so beautiful, it’s hard to decide!

    • when are you planning on going on your honeymoon? we’ll be in st. lucia in nov. & i plan to blog all about it – the good & the bad (hopefully not!) – so maybe that could help? i know ryan & i felt overwhelmed w/ all the travel options!

  23. Hahah that looks like what we had 2 nights ago! We had parsnip fries and brussels too! Aren’t they delishh? 🙂

  24. Whoa. I’m jealous. Your library card is so much prettier than mine! Why can’t my town have a colorful card with fun text like that??

  25. Congrats on getting a library card. I absolutely love going to the library and getting great books for free! Very few things in life are free now, so I love enjoying these little joys of life.

  28. I haven’t been to my public library in ages! Unfortunately, I don’t have much time for fun reading with all my law school reading.

Diner looks delicious, except for those brussel sprouts. Never have been a fan 🙂

  29. I’ve always loved the library!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Those veggies look yummy…..I don’t blame Sadie for wanting to try them!!!!!

  30. Have a great time!

I truly love the library. I’ve had a card since I was a young kid and have actually been a member in two separate counties at the same time. Just drove to whichever one I was closest to at the time.

  31. Hey Julie!

I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now and finally I thought it was time to comment! I love your blog and I find it so funny that even though I live all the way in Finland I still attend the same Bodypump classes as you do and know exactly what tracks you are always talking about.:D I even just started my own blog, inspired by you and all the other bloggers!

I hope you have a successful weekend with all your wedding errands!

Oh and even my boyfriend loves all the food related tips I’m stealing from you!:D

  32. Those pictures of Sadie are PRICELESS!!!

  33. that’s a great idea! I havent had a library card in years but would love to get a new one so I can borrow recipe books again 🙂

I used to love to buy my books and read them something about it made the experience more enjoyable.

But library books are such a money saver!

  37. As a future librarian, you just made my heart sing 🙂

  38. I’m in library school and I only just got my library card a couple of weeks ago. I can’t wait to actually start using it now.

  39. Haha Sadie likes brussel sprouts! My dog, Fluffy, likes banana peels! I kid you not, everytime I throw away a banana peel she tries to go into the garbage and get it! Ew! 😛
