Fiesta Burgers

How to make a hungry boy happy: Have a big burger waiting when we arrives home!

Ryan got caught up a little late at work this evening, so I got to work in the kitchen solo. Initially I was going to wait for him to arrive home to grill up the burgers since the grill intimidates me,ย but my stomach was growling and I figured he’d enjoy having dinner ready when he walked in the door.

Though I wasn’t brave enough to fire up the grill, I did manage to make a mean couple o’ burgers on the stove.

I combined lean ground beef with salsa to make fiesta burgers!

ย I topped my burger with ketchup, mustard and relish and served it on a a bed of fresh spinach.

Burger 'n' Beans

Along with the fiesta burgers, we enjoyed green beans with a little bit of butter.

I really enjoyed the addition of the salsa to the burgers. It added a lot of flavor and kept the meat nice and moist.

Oh-so-easy!

I’m about to press publish on this lil’ post and watch The Bachelorette (and watch Frank drop a boooomb)! Ain’t no shame in loving girly reality t.v.! ๐Ÿ˜€

Question of the Evening

If you were going to make a romantic meal for someone, what would you make?

When Ryan and I were dating I think he was most impressed when I made my firstย whole roasted chicken with carrots, potatoes and onions, so I’d probably make something like that. It smells fantastic and has that wonderful, comforting homecooked taste!

  1. That is the kind of stuff we make for a romantic meal too. Or seafood – like crabcakes!

  2. When I was trying to woo my meat-eating husband, my vegetarian self figured out how to cook chicken served with veggies and mashed potatoes. It was my first – and only! – time cooking meat. It worked! We’ve been married for almost 2 years and have a baby on the way…and I haven’t cooked meat since ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I love that you just admit to watching the The Bachelorette- you’re right-ain’t no shame in girly reality TV.
Hmmmm. .. . I would make something like a really good homemade pizza. It’s more my personality than “fancy” food plus I’ve got it down pat.
and GO CHRIS L (I know your a roberto fan but Chris L gives me butterfly’s ๐Ÿ™‚

    • chris l. has really moved up in the ranks for me. i think i was initially woo-ed by roberto’s studly looks, but chris l. was unbelievably adorable w/ his family. decisions, decisions.

      one thing’s for sure though… frank’s a super-douche.

      • I love that you just wrote super douche! Made me laugh out loud. Yep Roberto has the stud factor! I really like them both- I guess we will see. . . just happy to see Frank go

  4. Can’t wait for The Bachelorette!! Gonna get steamy ; )

  5. romantic meal…..pasta!

  6. Adding salsa to burgers is a great idea!! ๐Ÿ˜€ I always think of filet mignon or pasta as a romantic dish. With chocolate for dessert!

  7. Pasta with Homemade spagetti sauce and homemade garlic bread…. Something I’d never make for myself but the fiancรฉ is in heaven when I make this for him!

  8. they call that engagement chicken!! i made one for James too and look how it turned out ๐Ÿ˜‰ for you guys too i guess!!

  9. I would make some type of baked pasta dish. I think the homeyness of it is very romantic and it tastes good!

  10. Have you read about engagement chicken? It’s essentially the roasted chicken dish that you described. I remember making my first whole chicken for my boyfriend as a romantic meal… very intimidating! But he was impressed!

  11. AWw, I bet Ryan remembered why he loved you so much after he smelled burgers when we walked in the door.

One of my favorite “romantic” meals to make my guy is Chicken Alfredo only because it was the first thing I made him and it’s his favorite!

    Have a great night!!

  12. Wow, that looks sooo good. Everything you post on here looks good. I need to stop reading when I’m hungry ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. I would make an Italian feast! Spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and olive oil, and cheese of course ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy the Bachelorette!

  14. For a romantic meal… cheese fondue, and a main course with garlic… which I realize sounds counterintuitive, but the delicious smell that fills the house makes it seem like you’re cooking up a pro meal!

    Go Roberto!

  15. I’m watching Bachelorette right now–and Tahiti. Oh my gosh. Now that’s romantic…can I please go?

I’d second Italian–with nice wine. and kiss with the spaghetti like Lady N the Tramp ;). haha jk.

  16. mm, it looks delicious!

  17. For my first meal for Craig, I found out beforehand what his favorite food was- like just in a normal conversation- & he said it was Salsburg steak with mashed potatos & peas…so that’s what I made him the first time I cooked him dinner. ๐Ÿ™‚
I really do think the way to his heart was thru his stomach…

  18. My boyfriend loves eggplant parmesan! I made it for him when he came back from Iraq and he was VERY happy. Plus I’ll make him cannoli and that makes him even happier. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. There’s this really good “beer chicken” that my family makes. Plus, whatever has the word beer in it is definitely dude friendly.
I LOVE your blog by the way. It definitely is one of my faves. Feel free to check out my blog sometime!! I just got started this weekend so I would love for you to read it!

  20. I’m just getting ready to watch The Bachelorette. . . can’t wait for all the scandals!!

  21. My husband enjoys it any time I happen to cook, as it is him cooking about 90% of the time. I HATE doing it, so he knows I’m feeling extra loving if I do it. =)

  22. I spent all day yesterday trying to find a recipe both my boyfriend and I would eat (I’m a vegetarian and he’s a carnivore–in the most stubborn way–he refuses to eat anything green (and the list goes on)). I’m still a little at a loss for something healthful for both of us to enjoy. The search continues….

  23. Is it bad to say that I take my husband out when we want a romantic dinner? ๐Ÿ™‚ OK, well I’d cook fish I think. He’d probably want steak, but we don’t have a grill and that’s the only way I’ll eat my beef.

  24. My attempt at a romantic special dinner was to grill the “perfect” steak with double stuffed potatos and sour dough cheese fondue. Every thing went great except – the grill hates me! I.CANT.GRILL.STEAK.VERY.WELL ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  25. Party in your mouth!

I would make a three course for sure. Something with fish as the main dish would be involved and some kind of red velvet cake for dessert.

  26. it would depend if my boyfriend and I decided to have a cheat meal. So if it were a cheat I would do a tummy pasta dish with a yummy dessert. But if we were being good and getting ready for one of our competitions then it would have to be fish or chicken with roasted asparagus.
