Question About the Coating

Shout out to the cheese booth at the downtown Orlando farmer’s market!

I usually do not buy certain types of cheese because they can be so darn expensive, but when I saw a decent-sized block of Brie on Sunday for only $4, I immediately whipped out my wallet.

I paired the fresh, flavorful cheese with a sliced pear in a cheesy, fruity sandwich.

Behold Brie

Are you supposed to eat the outside coating of Brie cheese?

I dunno, but I like it!

Cheese 'n' Fruit Sandwich + Carrots

On the side of my sandwich, I enjoyed a big chopped-up carrot (No, not the crazy carrot).

Brie + Pear

I also nibbled on the remaining pear slices.

Pear Slices

(Side note: I bought five pears at the farmer’s market in case you were wondering why the fruit is popping up all over this blog. I think I have one more left…)

This lunch was great. I’ve found that I really, really enjoy meatless sandwiches. Throw some cheese on that bad boy and I’m a happy girl! 😀

What’s your favorite way to add some protein to your sandwiches?

Mine is cheese… no doubt about it!

  1. The French eat the rind on Brie, but I don’t like it. I know it’s not ladylike, but I always skin it before eating. I’m with you: Cheese is the best way to add protein. Or, at least the tastiest!

  2. oh how I love brie. I eat the rind too because I don’t want to risk wasting any cheese by trying to remove it. 🙂

My favorite way to add protein is cheese too!

  3. I too love cheese. Also hard boiled eggs.

  4. I’m not a huge cheese person, but I LOVE brie! Brie is really good with apples too 🙂

  5. Yes, the rind on the brie is just fine to eat. Some people don’t like the taste, that is why sometimes you see people go around it – but if you like it, eat it!

  6. Brie is my favorite cheese! The creamier the better! Yup, I eat the rind too. have you ever had baked brie? HEAVENLY!!!

  7. You can definitely eat the rind, I think it’s yummy too but others don’t care for it. Looks like a delicious sandwich!

  8. you can eat the rind, but i usually cut it off…there’s just something about the texture that kills me! sounds like a fabulous sandwich though!

  9. LOVE brie and pear together! I totally eat the coating too 🙂

  10. I need to eat more brie! I never though of putting it together with a pear, but it sound delish!

  11. Eating the rind of cheese is the french way to do it!! I love Brie, but Camembert is even better if you’ve never had it!!

  12. Cheese is definitely my favorite way to add protein too! YUM! This past weekend in Dallas Keith and I went to a friend’s house for dinner and they grilled cheese for us. Yeah…straight up on the grill. It was AWESOME because the outside got all charred and the inside was gooey! I don’t remember what kind of cheese it was though…

  13. ahh fresh brie sounds sooo delicious! i have no clue about the skin of the brie haha.. i’m ignorant about that stuff, im the girl who will accidentally eat the outside o the edamame seeds.hope you have a great day! i love turkey slices for protein 🙂

  14. I always eat the rind of the brie, just like I eat the fur of my kiwis, skin of my potato, and well… I draw the line at orange and banana peels. Ew.

And adding protein to lunches? Lately I’ve been adding edamame to salads, either dried or fresh. In dried form it adds a satisfying crunch to a salad or bowl of soft, cooked veggies.

  15. I wonder the same thing about the coating…I think it’s edible haha, at least I tell myself that since I ate it 😉

  16. I love brie + gorgonzola in a cheese called Cambazola…Sooo good! I always pick of the rind, even though I know it’s not the “authentic” way to do it!

  17. i love love love brie and i eat mine with the rind on :o) i prefer my brie all melty and gooey though. great lunch Julie!

  18. I don’t peel mine either. I love adding beans. Monday for lunch I had 1/4 cup black beans, 1 chopped tomato, some frozen corn, onion and spice. I microwaved it at lunch and ate it with some mexican chips. It was really good and the beans have great protein.

  19. Cheese and fruit is the probably one of the best food combination ever. My family always eats the outside…when I was little I used make a fuss about it and call it the ‘pillow case’ and said I would only eat the ‘pillow’ haha now I LOVE it 🙂

  20. […] “coating” (as I called it) on the outside of Brie cheese is known as the rind when I mentioned it the other day. Apparently I’m quite French since I like it eat the rind like they do. ; […]
