Overactive Nose

This morning I feel like my nose is on smell patrol!

Take Time to Stop and Smell the Roses

Today I have been very sensitive to even the slightest smells.

It started when a stinky person got on the stair master next to me at the gym. I promise I’m not just being mean, they really were stinky. You know the type… Drenched shirt, dripping hair, sweat on the floor next to their machine…

After completely 20 minutes of a stinky stair master workout, I took my sweat session to the treadmill and the elliptical to finish it out.

I came home and leashed up Sadie for our morning walk.

Ready for Walkin'

Thankfully the air on our walk smelled fresh and crisp. We even enjoyed the sweet smell of citrus when we passed a grapefruit tree.

After our walk I took a shower and was one again overwhelmed by a new smell. Last night we ran out of our girly moisturizing soap with aloe for soft and silky skin, and Ryan broke into his “man soap.”

Kiehl's Man Soap

He received the “Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap” as a gift for Christmas. It smells really good… but like a guy. So now I smell like a guy. A good smelling guy… but a guy nonetheless. Sexy, no?

On to the last strong smell…

As I was blow drying my hair, Sadie came in to keep me company and did a little stretch before heading into the bedroom to watch me complete my morning routine from our bed. About 1.5 seconds later, I realized that mid-stretch Sadie let out a stink bomb!

Our bathroom smelled like a mix of man and flatulence… but I guess those two smells go together pretty frequently anyway.

What is your favorite smell?

I love the smell of:

  • Cinnamon candles
  • Freshly baked cookies
  • The beach
  • Sadie (her fur, not her gas)
  • Ryan
  • Freshly baked bread
  • Cinnamon rolls
  • Pizza

After Sadie’s gas attack, I was ready for some good smellin’ stuff in my life again. Enter breakfast!

Today’s breakfast included cinnamon lavash chips that I baked in the oven using a Joseph’s lavash bread. I dipped them in yogurt pudding made with Chobani Greek yogurt and a spoonful of butterscotch pudding mix.

Butterscotch Yogurt Pudding

All around good breakfast!

There was a two month period when Ryan and I would eat tacos at least one time a week. We became a little obsessed with the ease of crock pot chicken tacos and made the yummy meal over and over again.

What meal do you make over and over again?

After a brief hiatus, the tacos made a return last Friday, and we were reminded of how tasty those lil’ tortilla and hard shell delights really are.

Tonight tacos made another appearance and were just as delicious as ever!

I opted for a ginormous taco salad tonight consisting of taco-seasoned chicken, shredded ice berg lettuce, a sliced plum tomato, salsa and two crumbled hard shell tacos.

Stirred Up

After dinner, I had a couple small handfulls of glazed pecans for dessert. Pecans are my favorite nut and when they’re glazed, they taste that much better. Get in mah belly!

Glazed Pecans

Ryan will enjoy his dinner and dessert after his soccer game tonight. Cross your fingers for a win!

I’m off to catch up with some of my girlfriends via the ol’ cell phone before settling down to read Wicked and hanging out with Ryan when he gets back.

F-R-I-D-A-Y tomorrow! Woop, woop!

Working Lunch

I had take out lunch today because we had a manager’s meeting at my work and had food delivered from Pom Pom’s Teahouse & Sandwicheria.

It was great because they took everyone’s individual order rather than ordering a bunch of food for all of us to share. I love selecting my own food and jumped at the chance to enjoy a fresh lunch.

I chose the “create your own salad” option and though I didn’t get the chance to snap a picture, I’ll take you through the contents of my salad:

Spring Mix

Sliced Apple

Swiss Cheese

Creamy Basil Dressing

It was tasty!

I really loved my salad but was pretty jealous of one of my coworker’s sandwiches. He ordered Mama Ling Ling’s Thanksgiving sandwich which came loaded with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and gravy to dip the sandwich in. I wish I would’ve noticed that on the menu!

Why I Love My Friends

I got a wonderful email from my friend Merri today detailing her fantastic lunch.

Subject Line: I’m a Fatty 2.0

*Great email, huh? 😀

Day of the Week Rankings

Good morning and happy Friday eve! 🙂

Yesterday Ryan and I were discussing how each day of the week feels. Here’s my rating (5 stars is the best):

  • Monday: **
  • Tuesday: *
  • Wednesday: ***
  • Thursday: ****
  • Friday: *****
  • Saturday: *****
  • Sunday: ****

Days of the Week

Yes, I actually ranked Tuesdays worse than Mondays… I always feel fresh on Mondays and then Tuesday is when the “blah” feeling kicks in. Thankfully it’s all up from there! 🙂

What is your favorite day of the week?

I am inclined to say Saturday, but honestly I’ve always loved Fridays. Even though I have to go to work, everyone is generally in a good mood and I love the excitement and anticipation of a fun weekend ahead.

Today’s cardio workout was a goodie!

I followed a 25 minute treadmill workout I clipped out of Oxygen Magazine a few months ago.

25 Minute Treadmill Training

I made a couple of modifications, like only bringing the incline down to one, not zero, and warming up/cooling down at a 4.0 pace rather than a 3.5 pace.

After the 25 minute treadmill fun, I walked for another 10 minutes on an incline before finishing up with 15 minutes on the elliptical.

Chocolate attack!

Chocolate Delight

Today my breakfast was a bowl of chocolate goodness:

Thursday's Breakfast

As Dale from Doug would say, “Yum, yum, eat ’em up!” Yes, I did just reference a classic Nickelodeon show. Doug was the best!

Salivary Gland

When I arrived home a little early to scoop Sadie up for her appointment at the vet she looked so excited. Even though she’s received several rounds of shots and was spayed at the vet, she still is excited to go… but then again, she’s always excited to go anywhere.

Sadie’s nerves kick in at the vet’s office when we go into the examination room and she is put on the display table. It’s heartbreaking to watch her little tail tuck under her legs. She looks at me with those scared little eyes that clearly say, “Mama, help me!” Gosh, I am the biggest sucker in the world.

Thankfully, today’s appointment went really well. I was immediately comforted when the vet said that the swollen lump was not one of Sadie’s lymphnodes… phew!

Apparently Sadie has a swollen salivary gland. Our vet told us that she should be fine, but to be sure to bring her back in if it gets any bigger. I think all of your warm thoughts helped! 😀

Dog Park

To celebrate Sadie’s healthy state, Ryan and I took her to the dog park for some running, jumping, throwing and catching.

"Try to Catch Me!"

Oh, Hello

Puppy Playtime

Sadie was really feelin’ the other dogs tonight. Normally she just wants to play fetch and run around with us, but today she made the most of her time with her canine playmates.

After the dog park fun, we came home to make a warm dinner, fit for a chilly evening.

Grilled cheese and soup!

Ryan slurped on beef stew while I elected to enjoy chicken noodle.

Campbell's Chicken Noodle

Chicken Noodle Soup

I’ll be completely honest with ya… this soup was not that great. I finished the whole bowl, but it definitely wasn’t an amazingly delicious bowl of soup. Not a chicken noodle soup I’d buy again.

My grilled cheese, on the other hand, was fantastic!

Wednesday Night Dinner

I don’t know if it was all the salt in my dinner or what, but I wanted dessert almost immediately after dinner.

I opened up a Healthy Choice fudge bar and it hit the spot!

Yummy delish!

Why You Can Work Out for an Hour, But Still Get Winded Walking Up the Stairs

This has always boggled my mind. Why, when I can run or work out for an hour +, do I feel winded walking up a few flights of stairs?

Today I read an article on Health.com that broke it down for me:

“Unlike running, stair climbing has a vertical element. The upwards movements make your lower body muscles—quads, hamstrings, and glutes—work harder to lift your body weight against gravity. Common activities such as running, swimming, and biking get your heart rate up, but none of them have the vertical element. Most of your daily activities move you forward instead of up, which is why our bodies aren’t used to fighting gravity.”

Maybe I should go find some hills to run… though that might be difficult to come by in flat-as-a-pancake Orlando. 😉
